Strengthening Bonds, Fostering Unity

Change Makers’ vision includes the transformation of the Breede Valley community, with our participants and graduates driving this as leaders in the community and within their families.

We are uniquely positioned to bridge gaps and heal divisions caused by gangsterism and drug addiction and our community service, events and outreach provide the platform to do so.

We believe that we have a key role to play in repairing the social fabric of the community, through the men whose lives are changed by Change Makers and the family and community reconciliation that takes place through our programmes.

Our graduates have become role models within the community and are at the forefront of building an environment of belonging and mutual support amongst the Breede Valley community.

Outreach Events to Gangsters

Our understanding of the complex dynamics that lead individuals to gang life provides a unique perspective that we apply to outreach.

Events are designed to open dialogues, offer alternatives, and extend a hand of support to those who feel trapped in a cycle of violence and retaliation.

Many of our graduates and staff have friends and family still trapped in gang life, and through our efforts we hope to dismantle barriers, build trust, and plant seeds of change that can grow into opportunities for a new way of life.

Community Braais

Community braais (BBQs) are a cornerstone of our engagement strategy, bringing together Change Makers participants and graduates, their families, and the broader community in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

These events are more than just social gatherings; they are opportunities to celebrate progress, share stories of transformation, and strengthen the communal fabric. By breaking bread together, we break down walls, fostering a spirit of unity and mutual understanding.

Community Work

Change Makers is actively involved in various community work projects, from beautification initiatives like cleaning up local parks and public spaces to participating in food drives and other social support services.

Our participants take pride in contributing positively to the community, and these activities offer tangible benefits to both the individuals involved and the community at large. One notable initiative is our weekly clean-up operation focusing on the Robertson and Villiersdorp entrances to Breede Valley, a project that instils pride in our town and demonstrates the value of giving back.

Engaging with the Youth

Recognising the importance of reaching young people before they are drawn into gang life or substance abuse, Change Makers organises and participates in events and workshops aimed at youth engagement.

Through sports, education, and mentorship, we strive to offer positive alternatives and role models, showing the younger generation that their futures can be bright and filled with opportunity.
